Review: Supernova 2: Spacewar

supernova 2 main menuIf you’re looking for a deep, captivating space war game, with the right dose of macromanagement (but not too much), and also easy to play, look no further: Supernova 2 Spacewar is the right title for you!

Sequel of the hybrid action/strategy game Supernova : Galactic Wars, luckily this time the author opted for a strategy – turn based game system, so no real-time battles.

The strategy is incredible. For the first time in this kind of games, the ship facing has a real importance. Indeed hitting an enemy from the side, or even better, from behind, gives an incredible boost in damage, and can really change a battle completely.

There are so many factors in play: the ship movement and weapons range, the weapons recharge rate, damage type, ammunition. Each device installed on the ship has also a hit point so you can destroy the ship defenses or weapons making it useless. Each faction has unique ships, and alien technologies to discover that will unlock even more unique and powerful units/weapons.

I waited to review this title because I heard they were going to do a major overhaul of the game, introducing ships blueprints (basically you can create any kind of ship design from scratch) and real-time macromanagement: and I can easily say that with those two last addition this game is without any doubt one of the best strategy / wargame available today for Mac.
There’s also a skirmish mode for those of you that don’t want to deal with macromanagement, discovering new technologies or managing resources: jump straight into the battle!

Try the demo now and you won’t be disappointed!

Review: Depths of Peril

Depths of PerilMany of you will surely remember Diablo 1 and 2. Probably the best combination of RPG and action games ever created. Now there’s a new entry in this very underpopulated genre though: Depths of Peril.

This game, beside offering a main gameplay that will be familiar to those that used to play Diablo, also has new interesting innovations:

- you can change relationships with enemy factions using diplomacy, trade, war, and raids

- A developed plot (40+ short stories, 60,000+ words)

- Randomly generated world

- Changing, evolving world

If you still aren’t convinced, just try the demo and you’ll see yourself why this is one of the best RPG games for Mac today.
